Katie Wilkinson previews Manchester United trip
Manchester United Women v London Bees - Sunday 6th January - 2pm
The Bees kick off 2019 with a trip to league leaders Manchester United on Sunday.
We caught up with Katie Wilkinson to gather her thoughts ahead of what she expects to tough test.
"We're expecting it to be tough, very tough - United will be hard to beat but they're not unstoppable.
"They have some good players and their full-time training schedule will allow them to be organised and fit but we came into a good run of form in the league before the break and we will be hoping to continue that in the second half of the season.
"We're not under any illusions that it's not going to be difficult to play against the league leaders in front of their home crowd and come away with 3 points, but we won't be shrugged aside easily and we'll be rolling up our sleeves and hoping to put in a good team performance.
The Bees have won each of their last three Women's Championship outings, but Wilkinson suggests that there are still areas for improvement.
"Our last 3 games in the league gave us such a buzz!
"Coming from behind in all of them to go on and win the game shows the fight we have in our team and gave us a lot of confidence.
"We joke about only playing second halves from now on, but starting our games a little sharper is something we need to be better at, so that will be something we'll be focusing on in the New Year and certainly something we'll make sure we get right going into the United game."
When the two sides last met, Manchester United were 5-0 winners but the Bees have come a long way since then, including improvements made in key areas.
"We've put a lot of work in at training to put many areas of our game right since that game.
"Defensively we've sharpened up and we've worked on our build-up play and quality in the final third a lot.
"This hard work showed to be paying off before the break with the positive results we had, so now we'll be looking to continue that on Sunday."
The Bees number 9 is looking to start the New Year on the right foot.
"As a striker, my target has to be to get on the scoresheet.
"It's always nice to hit the back of the net, but first and foremost I want to work as hard as possible to help the team to put in a quality performance - if this happens then the goals and assists will come.
All eyes after Sunday will be on the SSE Women's FA Cup draw that is being made on Monday, something Wilkinson is certainly looking forward to.
"The FA Cup is always exciting to be part of, anything can happen and that's the magic of the cup.
"We'll hope for a positive performance on Sunday then we'll look to see who we are drawn against on Monday where we'll hope to make a good cup run."
