Emma Beckett named captain of London Bees

Irish International midfielder named as Luke Swindlehurst's new captain ahead of 2017/18 season

Head Coach Luke Swindlehurst is pleased to announce Irish International midfielder Emma Beckett as the new captain for the 2017/18 campaign.

Emma Beckett joined the Bees at the start of the 2016 season after a spell in Norway with Amazon Grimstad. Her former clubs include Watford, Fulham, Charlton, and Millwall Lionesses.

Beckett started every game in the Spring Series and scored three goals for the Bees; one of those being an impressive strike from the half way line seconds after kick off.

Luke Swindlehurst commented:

"I'm delighted that Emma has accepted the role of captain for the new season. She has experience, drive and ambition which aligns perfectly with the direction of the club. Emma is a well-respected member of the squad and she will bring professionalism but also lead by example on the pitch. The captaincy is a big responsibility and I've no doubt that she will help carry us forward on and off the field.

“As a player, Emma's attitude has been immaculate throughout pre-season and conducts herself in a manner which spreads confidence throughout the squad. That is invaluable to us moving forward and I've great pride in the fact we have a character like Emma within our club."

Emma Beckett added:

"It's a real honour to a lead a club that is going from strength to strength, with a group of talented individuals and under a coach persistent in improving the standards here at London Bees.

"I hope to be able to influence and support the team as much as Ash (Goddard) has done over the past couple of years and it goes without saying that her leadership and energy will be missed whilst she takes time out over the season to recover from serious injury.

"This season ahead is one we're all very much ready for."
